1. Do watch closely the feet everyday for sores and cuts.
|

2. Do wash the feet and keep them dry.
|
|
|
3. Do use talcum powder
|
|
|
4. Do use a mild cream to keep the skin soft and to avoid cracks.
|
|
|
5. Do use well-fitting shoes with uppers made of soft leather or fabric and the sole which is not hard. Prefer sandals to chappals.
|
|
|
6. Do check for any sharp objects such as nails, glass pieces in shoes which might be present without knowledge as these feet are less sensitive.
|
|
|
7. Do be very careful while cutting toe nails, not to injure the skin.

DON’T
|
|
|
1. Don’t walk barefoot
|
|
|
2. Don’t cut corns or calluses yourself lest today’s com can be an ulcer tomorrow and gangrene the next week.
|
|
|
3. Don’s wash the feet with water which is either too hot or too cold.
|
|
|
4. Don’s use ill-fitting shoes: they might cause corns and joint problems
|
|
|
5. Don’s cut toe nails too closed it might cut the skin too. Don’s probe down the sides of the nails. If so one might develop an ingrowing toenail.

|
6. Don’s smoke-it reduces blood circulation.
|
|

WATCH FOR
|
|
|
1. A cut or a sore
|
|
|
2. An ingrowing toe nail.
|
|
|
3. Change in colour or blackening of Skin.
|
|
|
4. Cramps or pain in calves.
|
|
|
5. Loss of sensation.
|
|
|
6. Slow healing of ulcers.
|
|
